Humanitarian Operations and Logistics

The Humanitarian Operations track focuses on high-quality research that contributes to shaping via theoretical, empirical and behavioral insights the area of Humanitarian Operations and Logistics. Extant literature has prioritized optimization models based on abstract problems that are not sufficiently grounded in empirical observation. Thus, models are methodologically rigorous and deal with interesting technical   challenges   but   often   offer   limited   insights   to   practice.   Failure   to understand practice results in difficulties to establish a relevant theory of Humanitarian Operations and Logistics. Relevance to practice will be a key criterion in assessing the suitability of papers.

  • Effect of culture on the supply of aid and reconstruction
  • Evaluation of supply chains of food, medicine and related aid
  • IT/IS integration and support for humanitarian logistics and disaster supply chains
  • GIS-based Decision Support Tools
  • Systems approaches in humanitarian supply chain management
  • Risk management and supply network resiliency
  • Business models for humanitarian logistics and disaster supply chains
